Multiple items in order form in shopping cart?

Postby andrea » Wed Oct 25, 2006 10:30 am

Hello,

I have a product with several variations. I described each variation in the dropdown box in the Ordering Options, like this:

Ordering options:;n
Blue Widget $10.00;10
White Widget $12.00;12
Red Widget $9.00;9
Green Widget $15.00;15

How can I have a customer buy 3 red widgets AND 2 white widgets?
With the Ordering Options as above, the customer has to order say 3 red widget and then go back to the product page, press the button again to return to the shopping cart and then order the 2 white widgets.

Thank you!

There is a little known feature of the shopping cart (in Pro level stores only) where you can increase the number of line items in the cart by putting a * and then the number of items desired into the quantity field. The shopper can then select the order options and change quantities of those options

For example, if you add an item to the art and change the quantity field to *5 and click recalculate the cart will be refreshed with 5 individual line items the shopper can modify.

If you put a description of how to do this on your shopping cart page then the shopper could enter *2 to create 2 line items for the product and then change the quantity to 3 in one and select the red widget and change the quantity to 2 in the other and select the white widget.

Amazing!
Thank you Jim.
Is there any other way to have multiple lines in the shopping cart? Just to make the customers' life easier.

Have you looked at the multi product add to cart template example?

http://www.shopsite.com/help/8.1/en-US/ ... i-add.html

That allows you to have a page with multiple items that the shopper selects from and adds all selected items at once to the cart.

Interesting! (any other secret undocumented gimmicks that you care to divulge?)

It took me a while to figure out what the * accomplished. I think it would be easier for our customers to just re-loop thru the whole selection process to order the option variations than for them to learn how your * short cut works.

Glad you mentioned the Multi Product add to cart method. That would be especially useful for wholesale sellers. We may try it for a few products that are ordered in large quantities.

Jim,

I use order anywhere and my own page templates, so inserting that coding and making it work seamlessly with my own page design would be pretty complicated.
I have implemented the instructions in the shopping cart though.
Thank you for your help.
