Help! Update Links not working - Database upload times out?

Postby tricianeill » Sat Sep 16, 2006 6:32 pm

Hello-

We are stuck! When we try to upload our products database - it uploads, but then gets stuck at the updating links part. (We're talking about databases that contain less than 30 rows of information.)

I've tried deferring the linking - and the database will upload the data records fine, but then when I go to UPDATE LINKS - it just sits there - and my browser status goes to DONE, so I know that there is no communication going on, when I hit cancel I get an error message giving me the option to continue or discard the upload...if I hit continue, I get this: Internal error: Restarting previous upload failed.

I've waited over ten minutes on the screen to see if it is just taking a while to respond.

Called the hosting company - and they see no problems on the server...

Did a traceroute on my end - and communication is fine.

I don't know what to do...we're stuck...

Has anyone had this happen before?

Your help is GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Tricia

I'm having the same issue, but we have about 2000 products.

Even though it times out, everything seems to be there OK. Do a Utililties>publish>regenerate and you should see all your info working correctly.

Did you ever attempt to upload a file with both the Add To Pages and Product On Pages fields included? If so, that could have messed up your linking. Try backing up your database, download your products, Empty the products via the Utilities -> Database -> Empty function, then re-upload the products. Note that after this you should do a Publish to regenerate the HTML pages because some of the product record numbers may have changed, so their add to cart buttons on the store pages will need to be recreated.

Yes, I do recall doing an upload with both those fields. Can you please describe for me the difference between the Add To Pages and Product On Pages fields? I assumed the Product on Pages was for "new" items and Add to Pages was for exsiting. Please clarify as perhaps I have it wrong.

I want to make sure when I reupload the products I am using the correct field for the "pages to include product in". Thanks!

GOT IT!

Thanks Loren for the advice -- I applied it a different way. I will post here what I did in case others need the info.

I downloaded the products and searched for info in the "ADD TO PAGES". I found some .htm pages, some titles of pages, and some checked (obviously a tab error in a previous upload).

I deleted ALL products with info in the "ADD TO PAGES" column. Then I regenerated the site.

I then uploaded the products back with NOTHING in the "ADD TO PAGES" column but titles of pages in the "Products on Page" column.

The entire upload worked flawlessly as it use to, the links rebuilt and uploaded successfully.

I would still love to know HOW the "ADD TO PAGES" column should be used. Nothing is in the shopsite help about it.
