I have a customer that sells motorcycle parts. All of the parts are on
custom shipping table except for the tires which are a large item that costs
extra to ship. I have tried numerous ways to get this to work and haven't
had any luck. My client would like shipping for tires to be $15.00 per tire
so what I did was instead of messing with the standard shipping table which
is based on price, I set the tires to configure shipping by weight
generically giving all the tires a weight of 1 and all the other products 0.
I then setup the handling to equal the weight multiplied by $7.00 and it
almost is correct but not quite because the tires range in price from $71 up
to $212..00 and it adds the standard shipping rate plus the handling by
weight.
Basically all I want to do is turn off the standard shipping table and
charge $15.00 per tire for shipping? Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated!

Have you tried putting a handling charge on a per product basis for just
the tires? You could figure out how much shipping would be charged
based on the cost of the tire and then put the difference between that
charge and the $15.00 in the products "Extra Handling Charge:" field.
(You can use a negative amount if necessary if the price charge would
exceed the 15.00). You have to enable the handling charge option on the
Commerce Setup >Shipping before the per product handling charge will
work.
