Avatax by Avalara was first integrated in ShopSite version 10.1, 9 years ago! TaxJar was integrated this year in version 14. There have been a few tweaks to the TaxJar integration but with the latest ShopSite release (v14.0 r2) we are not aware of any issues. Both platforms are integrated with the same architecture and both will give accurate tax results down to the street address.

There is not really anything to see on the shopper side. When they enter their zip code an initial tax rate is calculated. When they enter the Ship To address on the billing screen the tax is recalculated with the additional street information and then updated if it changed.

ShopSite communicates behind the scene with TaxJar or Avatax similar to how it communicates with a shipper such as UPS or FedEX.
