Optimal Zoom Image Size

Postby koryb1 » Wed Jan 25, 2017 4:07 pm

As monitor resolutions have become higher and higher, I'm starting to worry that my zoom images sizes are not large enough. I'm comfortable with my Shopping Cart size (100 x 100), Thumbnails (200 x 200) and More Information Page images (400 x 400). I'm worried that my Zoom size, which is 800 x 800, is not large enough.

Some quick "Googling" suggests a minimum of 1000-1200 per side. I was thinking about 1200 x 1200. However, this obviously means that the file size of the images will be larger and I worry that it will slow down my website.

Does anyone have any insight on the optimal zoom image size "these days"?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Kory:

We've gone to using about 1000px by about 450 for our apparel photography for the same reasons you stated. It's wonderful that our vendors have been providing much higher quality product photos lately. That dimension seems ample to me, but we use 17"- 21" monitors. Unfortunately our site still has lots of old photos that are way too small. Also, for apparel, I find that sketches sometimes convey more information than model photography.
