Changing color schemes in responsive template

Is it possible (or even advisable) to change just the colors on a responsive template? The templates have limited color selections of their own so I would like to change just the colors and nothing else.

To be more clear, I wanted to change the color of the graphic elements and not just the color of the links. I gave up and just went with the responsive theme that has the least amount of color.

To see how colors are used in the themes go to http://www.shopsite.com/templates/cookbook/builtintemplates.shtml and click on the theme you have selected. It will show a list of how the various color fields are used in that particular theme. It may also give information on how other features are used in the theme.
