warning before downloading

Postby newmarket2 » Mon Oct 01, 2012 11:30 am

We use Shopsite to sell and download audioguides. These guides are quite large - currently packaged in a single zip file per product and ranging from 60MB to 200MB. Inside the zip are up to 60 mp3 tracks and a pdf.

Some of our customers have had trouble completing their downloads. Unfortunately, they have not provided us with enough information to allow us to diagnose the problem.
We can imagine that a 200MB download with a 1X data signal on a fast moving train in Europe isn't going to work well. But, our ISP might time them out too quickly, or the download is continuing but they can't tell it is all ok and terminate, etc. etc.

So, we're taking some steps right now. For example: posting a warning on our web site that you should download only when you have a hi speed connection.

We're also taking some steps that could help in the future. Example: reducing the quality of the mp3 files to make the .zip package smaller.

But, my post here is to try to find others who have solved similar problems in ways that I've been unable to think of myself.
If you can think of other solutions, especially using capabilities within ShopSite, it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

I saw your same problem in the ShopSite KnowledgeBase. It has to do with the timeout feature for your server where ShopSite is located. You'll have to extend the timeout for your website. See the KnowledgeBase for further details.
I believe your web host has to make the adjustment.
