Changing Domains - Any Issues

Postby Rgkopchak » Tue Jun 30, 2015 10:53 am

We have ShopSite installed on our servers, and we are in the process of changing Domain Names. Is there anything "domain specific" about our ShopSite installation?

Obviously I checked all the templates and other code to make sure our references and links were relative, rather than static. I've done that, and everything seems fine... I just wanted to make sure before I pull the trigger!

edit: Also, can I make the product "graphic" field relative, or does it need to be an absolute URL? So "/images/thumbnails/widget.jpg" vs. "https://myshopsitestore.com/images/thumbnails/widget.jpg"

The domain that your store is tied to is specified in the authorization file <storeid>.auth for the store. In order to change the domain you will need to get a new authorization file. You should contact your host if they are a ShopSite partner or ShopSite directly about getting a new .auth file for your store. (ShopSite's phone number can be found in the header of http://shopsite.com) Note that there may be a charge for a new authfile.

The path to images will be built based on the url specified in the authorization file. Generally they will therefore be absolute not relative. This is important for the shopping cart/checkout screens since the images are not at the same level in the directory structure as the cgis so you can't just do a ../image_name in order to get to the images like you could for the store pages.

EDIT. Changing the auth file will also require editing some configuration files to make sure paths are properly set for where file are located for the store.
