USPS API migration

Postby ErikaH » Sun Oct 05, 2014 11:35 am

I received this email from USPS and I forgot about it until I received an email from a customer today saying that their order won't go through. I have read through the email and links and the USPS website and still have no clue what I am supposed to do. Anybody have any ideas? I need this fixed ASAP so I don't lose business.

Hello,
Thank you for using USPS Web Tools.
Reminder of Important Update: USPS Web Tools will be retiring the RateV3 API on September 28, 2014. We encourage all RateV3 users to migrate to the RateV4 API prior to the retirement of RateV3 to ensure no disruption in service. For detailed instructions on upgrading to RateV4, please see the RateV3 to RateV4 Transition Guide at www.usps.com/webtools.
The CAT/staging environment is now available to developers for testing using your Web Tools user ID and the following URLs:
• Secure APIs: https://stg-secure.shippingapis.com/ShippingApi.dll
• Non-secure APIs: http://stg-production.shippingapis.com/ShippingApi.dll

My site is hosted on godaddy. When I go to commerce set-up - shipping, I do not see any reference to API version rate.

There is a ShopSite Knowledgebase Article concerning this issue at the URL below:
http://support.shopsite.com/KBase/questions/2557

If you do not see a pull-down menu for the API version rate under the USPS configuration settings then you probably have an older version of ShopSite which uses the rate v3 API. Depending on your version of ShopSite, the patch which our technicians have released may work for your store. I recommend sending an email (info-team@shopsite.com). Be sure to include your domain name and, if possible, your ShopSite version.

The other option would be to check with your hosting provider to see if you are able to upgrade your ShopSite store to version 12. Version 12 uses the new rate v4 API by default.

Yes, it looks like GoDaddy is using shopsite 11. Their support for shopsite techincal issues is practically nonexistent. They had me upgrade to their new hosting platform and then I had to switch back to the old linux platform because the new one did not offer shopsite software. They tried telling me that I wasn't getting shopsite through them. I had to show them that they were indeed billing me monthly for shopsite and that I was getting it from them. I love that my site never goes down with them, but it's a disaster whenever I have a technical problem.

I'll contact shopsite technicians to see if they can help. Thanks.

Here's what GoDaddy says:

I am sorry but right now version 11 is the one that we have available. We do not have version 12. Our developers update the application installs as soon as they can to the latest stable version.

I went back and forth with him, saying that they need to download the latest version, but he basically said they'd get to it when they feel like it.

They said I should ask Shopsite tech support how to manually upgrade. I don't know squat about that kind of stuff and I'm paying GoDaddy $160 monthly for 2 shopsite licenses that are now completely useless. I think I'm just going to move to a different host. This is very aggravating.
