mobil queston

Postby FredW » Wed May 15, 2013 9:57 am

Hi Folks,

Can you tell me how SS determines when to serve a mobile page or the desktop page?

I have been testing mobile devices and browsers and get the home mobile page, then click on a link and it get the desktop page version.

Also, how are tablets viewed - mobile or desktop?

Thanks

FredW,

Mobile browsers "pass" information to the website being viewed that they are mobile. JavaScript code on ShopSite pages then generates a mobile-friendly page for the viewer.

For tablets, I believe they are typically viewed as desktop; however, it may depend on the browser/settings for the individual tablet.

Thanks Nicole for the reply.

So, if my cell phone gets the home page presented as a mobile one, when I click on a link on that page to a SS page, shouldn't the mobile version be presented for the next page?

It is not what I'm seeing.

The page template must have specific code on it to determine if the request is coming from a mobile device or not. Are all your pages using the same template? If so does it contain the javascript for checking if the page is mobile or not? What is the url to the page that displays as mobile and the one that doesn't?
