Checkout by Amazon

Postby lbohen » Wed Sep 05, 2012 7:16 am

I just received an email from Amazon.com inviting us to add Checkout by Amazon to our ShopSite Pro store.

I am curious if others have implemented Checkout by Amazon.

How is working for you?

Any negative impacts?

Re: Checkout by Amazon

Since we sell a lot of product on Amazon, we use their Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) services. We currently have over 300 skus sitting in amazon warehouses and those are the first skus we listed on our Shopsite site. I finally configured the Checkout by Amazon (CBA) and we've had a few sales go through just fine. The only issue I have is that there are 2 methods for CBA: Standard and Inline. The Inline is a much better customer experience and that is what Shopsite provides. My issue is with Amazon since they don't have the Inline method integrated with FBA. I expected my Shopsite orders to be automatically fulfilled by Amazon as advertised. Amazon says "Works seamlessly with FBA" but after a month of waiting for support, they finally directed me to page 20 of the Inline Checkout API Reference Guide where FulfillmentNetwork's only accepted value is MERCHANT.

So I can see the orders in Amazon waiting to be fulfilled by me and they are sitting on my inventory. Frustrating. I have to manually send them ship to info they already have for each sale.

Now that I've vented, I'm looking for a solution within Shopsite to switch to the Standard method. Anyone have any thoughts?

One more negative we just discovered is that Checkout by Amazon assumes you have all inventory in stock. They expect you to ship within 2 days and will purge the sale after 30 days. I display items that are out of stock, and they are clearly marked as backordered, but still allow them to be purchased by customers.

Amazon suggests that we remove the Checkout by Amazon button for a shopping cart with any backordered items. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to accomplish this? I do have a developer who can code this but I thought I'd start here first.

I haven't yet configured Paypal or Google Checkout. Do they have similar policies for backordered inventory?

Thanks!

We, www.audiobooksonline.com, are again considering Checkout by Amazon and would love to hear of other ShopSite stores that have an opinion and/or experience with this payment method. Specifically I am interested in learning more about Checkout by Amazon's inventory / shipping requirements and their A-Z Guarantee to customers.
