I have the same problem, orders going to PayPal for payment and then getting lost with only the PayPal payment showing up. It's Nov. 14th now. Is the problem any closer to being corrected by PayPal?

I use version 10, Standard Payment Method, and though I can purchase version 11, my ISP doesn't guarantee it.

What's to be done? Thanks.

PayPal had put in place a temporary fix, but they set it to expire Oct 22, 2012. You will need to either edit your paypal.aa file in ShopSite, or upgrade to the latest version 11 sp2 r4 which has the PayPal patches if you want a permanent fix to the issue. See the ShopSite Knowledgebase article below for details:
http://support.shopsite.com/KBase/questions/2548

Also, you will want to check your IPN settings in your PayPal account to make sure it has not been turned off. If it has, turn it back on and resend the IPNs manually for the orders you need to appear in ShopSite.

I am having the same problem. It started sometime between 10/18 when we received the last notification and 10/24 when the first one failed.

I put the slash in the paypal.aa file and made sure IPN is turned on. We're running ShopSite® Pro 10 r7.2 upgrading to 11 is not an option right now. Has anyone heard of any other fixes that I could try?

Thanks

If you are using the PayPal Standard method then editing the paypal.aa file as described in the kbase article http://support.shopsite.com/KBase/questions/2548 will fix the problem.

If you are using PayPal Express checkout the only option is to upgrade to ShopSite 11sp2r4, there is no other way.

Note that it was PayPal that made the changes to their system, not something ShopSite did. We have only been able to make a fix going forward and can't change what was implemented in the past.

If you have made the above changes and are still not getting IPNs from PayPal make sure you have followed the section of the kbase article beginning "To re-enable IPN capabilities in your PayPal account..." . PayPal may have disabled IPN's in your account without notifying you that they did it.

Appreciate the reply but I have made the change in the paypal.aa file and made sure notifications were reactivated. I have gone into the IPN history on Paypal and resent the notification but still get a 500 error. I know this is a problem with PayPal, not Shopsite. When I try and connect to the URL that is listed in the IPN (which in the past has worked) I also get a 500 error. It may very well be something I'm screwing up but I have not been able to figure it out. It was well after the PayPal patch expired that we started having problems, so I'm trying to figure out if they have made more changes.

What other changes have been made on the server where you store is hosted? Has your host implemented any mod_security changes? One of the changes that PayPal made was to switch from a block of IPs that were dedicated to them to a service that routes IP to them through a 3rd party. I know of at least one major ShopSite partner that did not support such IP routing and they had to make changes in there routing tables to allow for that type of IPs. Maybe your host has a similar limit. You should check with your host to see if they made any server changes around the time the problems started.

What is the call back url that is listed for you store? Does it contain proipn.cgi in the url?

The site is hosted on a Verio VPS3 server. I have submitted a ticket to see if anything changed on their end. The notification URL is https://michellesmiracle.com/cgi-bin/sc/thankyou.cgi and the payment script is /cgi-bin/webscr. I see the proipn.cgi file in the cgi/sc/ directory but I see no reference to it anywhere.

A 500 error from the URL to proipn.cgi is actually normal if you are just going to it in your browser. This does not indicate anything.

Note that the changes you have made to the paypal.aa will have no effect on the email you are receiving from PayPalif that email references proipn.cgi. proipn.cgi is only used if you are using PayPal Express Checkout, and the paypal.aa file is only used by PayPal Standard.

So if you are using PayPal Express Checkout, the only way to stop the emails from PayPal about the IPN failures to proipn.cgi is to upgrade to the latest version of ShopSite. Or just let it continue until PayPal themselves shut down the IPN capability of your account.

You have more problems with the store than just thankyou.cgi. I can not even add an item to the shopping cart, as soon as I click the button I get a Server error. You definitely need to get Verio involved in fixing this problem as something is wrong with the install itself. If the first line of tech support you contact can't (won't) help insist that they escalate the issue to the next tier of support and then the next until you get to someone that can help.

I did notice that when I clicked the add to cart button on http://michellesmiracle.com/store/tart-cherry-dietary-supplements.html the form submits to https://michellesmiracle.com/cgi-bin/sc/order.cgi . Normally it would not go to a secure url for the first shopping cart screen. Do you know if it has always done that?
The url also doesn't look like a typical Verio install url, although it is normal for most sites. They typically have it in a cgi-shopsitesc or something like that. Do you know if the store was moved recently? The pages show that the version of ShopSite is ShopSite Pro 10 r7.2 so I assume that the store has been installed and working for quite a while. (ShopSite 10 r7 was released Jan 2009) So if it has been working and has now stopped something has changed on the server since the ShopSite cgi would not have changed.

Thanks for catching that Jim. They were still receiving orders on the 12th, well after the PayPal problem started. We are using PayPal Standard not Express. There has been no changes to the site on our end in quite some time. The odd structure was worked out by Verio with ShopSite back in 2009 and has worked ever since. I don't know how the https: link got in there. That seems to be happening on the links from the store pages. Links from the buy anywhere links outside the store pages are going to http:

Verio just escalated this. We are planning on moving this store to it's own server shortly so I don't want to go through the version update (not sure if it's even an option through Verio) until we make the move if at all possible. Thank you for your help on this.

More than 24 hours and no response from Verio. There is not any way to call technical support only customer service who don't know anything. Anyone looking for an ISP would be well advised to avoid Verio.

This is Tom again. I am using ShopSite v10 (PayPal standard) on a Mac, using Safari or Firefox. Upgrading to v11 isn't an option as my ISP won't guarantee it.

I thought I had fixed this problem by following the instructions from one of these postings and updating the Notification URL to " https://secure.cruzio.com/shop.swish22.com/sc/thankyou.cgi," adding the "/thankyou.cgi," and enabling IPN again (it was turned off), but no. I get only 1-2 PayPal orders a month, so it took a few days for such an order to come through. When it did, there was the PayPal payment but no ShopSite order again.

What else can I do? Thanks.

SwishCoach,

Has the paypal.aa file been edited on the server directly for your store already?

Hi Nicole and anybody else! My lost order suddenly appeared as an email in my mailbox, as it should have a day earlier. Only 22 hours late. The IPN must have finally been sent by PayPal.

Strange. I haven't made any new changes. We'll see if this works for the next, infrequent PayPal order.

Today, as normal, I got a PayPal order and right with it, the ShopSite order. So maybe things are working. Thanks to those who responded to my request for help. If I have any more problems, I'll send another email.
