e-Check Payments

Postby Paula » Fri Aug 03, 2012 4:48 am

According to what I read online, ShopSite only notifies us of completed PayPal orders. Is there a way to get around this, so I can at least see what the buyer ordered? I have someone who paid with PayPal e-check.Thanks.

If you are using PayPal Website Payments Standard, then no, you have to wait until the eCheck clears (3 or 4 days). Note that you can turn off the acceptance of eCheck payments in your PayPal account's Profile settings.

If you are using PayPal Express Checkout, then the eCheck orders should show in ShopSite right away, but will note that they are still in a 'pending' state.

I'm using PayPal Standard. Could you possibly add this to your list of to-dos - adding a function so we could see what the e-check buyer ordered? It would be helpful to know what someone ordered, so I don't run the risk of being out of stock when the check clears and order is ready to ship. Then they would have to wait even longer for their item. Thanks!

We originally had it that way, the order came to the merchant as soon as the shopper had completed it, however, we had so many complaints on e-check orders that had been shipped and the check never cleared the bank that we remove the notification until PayPal sends the IPN saying that the echeck cleared. There were also lots of complaints that the IPN's never came back so we implemented the express checkout method that doesn't rely on the IPNs.

I recommend that you switch to the express checkout method.

Jim, I thought of switching to Express but have been told buyers need to be registered PayPal users in order to use it.

The latest versions of ShopSite will send info to PayPal and allow orders to be completed by the shopper without having a PayPal account under certain conditons. (This was a restriction that PayPal required of ShopSite.)
1 If you don't have any other payment method than PayPal, i.e. no payment gateway checked (i.e. Manual (off line) is checked )
2 None of the Credit cards, i.e. Visa, MC, AmEX, Discover etc. are checked on the payment config screen.

If those conditions are met the shopper will be able to pay by credit card or they can create a PayPal account to make the payment. I'm not sure which version this was added to ShopSite, but it was probably ShopSite 11sp1.

To test if your version has the ability you could disable any payment method except PayPal Express Checkout and as a shoppper put an item in yuour cart and then try to checkout. If on the PayPal site you see the credit card option as well as the pay with PayPal option then you have a version of ShopSite with the feature.
