Search index limits?

Postby FredW » Sat Jun 30, 2012 2:24 pm

Hello All,

Running ShopSite Pro, 11 sp1. Do you know of any limits on the search indexing. I just added over 8000 products to a page just for the purposes of getting the Search to pick up the SKU, and other keywords. When I test the words I know should be indexed, I get inconsistent results. Some keywords give good results, others give nothing found.

I was wondering if I am running up against some limit of the number of items that can be indexed.

Thanks in advance,
Fred

There is no limit to the number of words that can be indexed as far as ShopSite is concerned. Indexing does take some time especially if you have lots of products, lots of text for each product and lots of fields that you are searching on. So if your server has a limit on the amount of time that a process can run then perhaps the indexing is timing out and not completing. Check the publish screen and see if it says that the indexing has completed when the screen stops updating.

A couple of hints for getting the publish to complete faster. On the Utilites > Publish screen you can check various features to be run, publishing pages, indexing, creating Google site map, You can check just one optino and uncheck the others and run the publish to do just that phase, when that completes uncheck that option, check another and re generate the site, etc. That way if you server has a time limit only a portion of the publish is being done and might be able to be completed faster. Also there is an option to turn off the display of allthe messages for each page/product. Since screen output takes quite a bit of cpu resources turning that off leaves more time for the other processes. Also turn off displaying of keywords (stop list words) , unless you need to check something in that regard.
