Customer Login with Facebook

Postby Lee.K » Thu May 03, 2012 12:06 pm

Is anyone using the Login with Facebook option for customer registration? I've followed the directions I've found in the ShopSite help but can't seem to get it working.

I'm running ShopSite® Pro 11 sp1 r2. Here's my settings in ShopSite...

Forum won't let me post links so here's the URL of the full size image: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/13/facebooksetup1.png

and here's the settings in Facebook...

When I click on Login with Facebook from the customer reg screen, I get an empty popup box. Any ideas?

Facebook broke this feature with changes on their end. It will be working again in the upcoming ShopSite 11 sp2, but for now you should just turn this feature off in your store.

Thanks. That explains it.

I just wasted 3 hours trying to figure this out. Is there any place that ShopSite posts info of this type so I could have known this in advance?

There is a ShopSite knowledgebase at http://support.shopsite.com/KBase/ where some issues are posted but I don't see that one listed there.

Thanks for the info. I've bookmarked the knowledgebase for future reference.

I've found this forum to be a wonderful source of information and answers are always provided really quickly! But until I've tried everything I can think of on my own, I wouldn't bother posting a question.

If ShopSite would keep the knowlegebase and a FAQ in the forum up to date and complete, it could save users a lot of wasted time.

I second Lee's comments about keeping knowledge base updated. I have had the facebook logon turned on and was unaware that it was broken until I stumbled across this post. Shopsite should really not offer an option like this unless they are going to keep their community up to date when something ceases to work.

We are not always aware of when third party applications make changes that break features in ShopSite. Merchants should be monitoring their store to make sure it is functioning properly by checking things out occasionally just to make sure that things don't get broken.

Owning a store on the web should be just as much a business as having a brick and mortar store. If you were running a brick and mortar store, I'm sure that you would be checking to make sure the manager of the store unlocked the door each morning and locked it at night and that all of the employees where there on time and that the shelves had products on them, that daily receipt are deposited to the bank, that water and electricity, heat and cooling are working, etc.

The same type of vigilance is necessary on an online store. Check to make sure that everything in the store is functioning at least weekly. The web is a fast moving environment and things can and do change on a daily basis. Often there is no notice that something is going to change from a vendor such as Facebook or Google or PayPal, USPS, UPS, etc. so the best way to keep up to date in your store is to check it yourself, or assign someone in your organization to check it regularly. If you notice something is no longer working, post it to the forum and see if others are having the same issues. The forum is here for users to assist other users.
