Free Shipping

This is confusing to me. So you can create a coupon for free shipping, but for it to work free shipping needs to be enabled on the shopping cart, but if free shipping is enabled you don't need a coupon to get the free shipping. So why would there be an option for a free shipping coupon ??? The only way I could see around it is to make the dollar amount to get free shipping like $10,000 and maybe the coupon could over ride that?

Free Shipping doesn't have to be enabled for Free Shipping Coupons to work. You do have to enable Free Shipping Coupon at the bottom of the Commerce Setup -> Shipping menu. Also, Free Shipping Coupon uses the same 'Allowed Countries' and 'Excluded Zip/Postal Codes' settings set for Free Shipping, so you do need to set those up, but you do not have to enable the Free Shipping feature itself.
