Is there any way to have a coupon code that allows free shipping with Shopsite 8.3? I don't see any options for "Free shipping coupon" referenced in this article:

It looks like the Free Shipping Coupon was added in ShopSite Pro v9.0 (see URL below):

Is there an upgrade from 8.3 to 9? I see upgrades to 10 but not for 9.

Does the "Free Shipping Coupon" work with Custom Shipping API scripts?
*edit* And supports excluding certain 'oversize' / large items? items?

We are using the Custom Shipping and Order APIs. Will we have to make any changes to Shipping or order api scripts if we upgrade?

And will we be able to get our test site updated as well?

To better help you on upgrading questions, it would be best to know where you are hosted or who you obtained your licenses from. I can tell you that it typically is possible to upgrade just from 8.3 to 9 (or from any service level to one above it).

The free shipping coupon can be set up to apply only to certain products. Here is the exact wording in the Pro v9 help documentation:
"If you select free shipping, you must configure shipping to use free shipping coupons. Depending on the setting of the Products attribute, this discount will be applied once to an entire order, or once for each qualifying product multiplied by the quantity ordered."

I am not a developer, however, in looking through our developer resources documentation, it does mention how to use Free Shipping Coupons with a Custom Shipping API:

"List the names of any shipping services (e.g. ground, second day, overnight, etc.) offered by your add-on in the text box, one service per line. Click Services to have ShopSite call your add-on and generate the list automatically. This list will be passed to features that require a list of shipping services, such as Google Checkout and Free Shipping Coupons."

Based on what is listed there, you should not need to make changes to your API script in order to use the Free Shipping Coupon Feature.

You also asked if you can have your test site updated, and the only thing I can say is that it depends again on where you are hosted or who you obtained your license from.
