Mobile Layout / Template

I have to admit to being confused by the new Mobile layout options. I have enabled the options, turned on the mobile/pc link, enabled product template etc

I assumed that the site would query the browser and return one of two pages dependent on whether they browser was mobile or desktop. I see no change whether on droid or my Ipad????

Is there an additional step I am missing, Does this only work with certain underlying templates????

There are special tags that are needed in both page and the moreinfo section of the product template and in customer registration, shopping cart, search, giftcertificate templates. The one tag load some javascript which determines, based on the User Agent passed by the browser, whether to load the mobile page or the normal page. Other tags display normal elements as configured on the Preferences > Mobile screen. Currently all buttons in mobile templates use the text version of the button configuration settings.

The default mobile templates provided by ShopSite will begin "mb_" so take a look at those templates to see how the tags are being used. There are mobile version of all the template types: page, product, shopping cart, search, customer registration, gift certificate.
