PayPal Website Payment Issue

Postby tomnet1 » Mon Apr 11, 2011 4:25 pm

I’m tring to setup my website to use the paypal website payment method for checking out. I have setup the Paypal account at paypal. I have used the configure the “PayPal Website Payments Standard “ in Shopsite but the checkout button does not redirect to Paypal for the customer check-out. Question: Does the script “cgi-bin/webscr” need to be locate on my website for the check-out routine to work? I don’t have the script in the cgi-bin directory. Also, once I configured the pay-pal option sure there be an orange “paypal” button created for checking-out?

Thanks for any help

I am going to give you more information than you need. The information that specifically answers your question is bolded below, but I have provided the rest of the information just so that you (and others who may read this) are aware.

There are a few different PayPal integrations, all 4 are listed below.

1- PayPal Website Payments Standard - the checkout process for this option goes like the following: ShopSite Shopping Cart Screen > ShopSite Shipping and Billing Address Screen > PayPal Login Screen > PayPal Confirmation Screen > PayPal Thank You Screen.

2 - PayPal Express Checkout - the checkout process for this option goes like the following: ShopSite Shopping Cart Screen > PayPal Login Screen > ShopSite Shipping and Billing Address Screen (with fields already filled in) > ShopSite Thank You Screen.

3 - PayPal Website Payments Pro - customer is never sent to PayPal; they stay in your ShopSite store through the entire checkout process.

4 - PayPal PayFlow Pro - customer is never sent to PayPal; they stay in your ShopSite store through the entire checkout process.

For options 1 and 2, a regular PayPal account is used. There are per transaction fees, but no monthly fees. For options 3 and 4, an upgraded PayPal account is used. There are monthly fees and per transaction fees (but the per transaction fees are lower).

If PayPal is the only processor you are going to be using, meaning that you would like all payments to go through PayPal, including credit card payments, and you have a regular PayPal account (not upgraded for a monthly fee), then you would want to enable PayPal Website Payments Standard (which is what you mentioned that you enabled), and disable all other payment options within ShopSite. You will want to go to Commerce Setup > Payment, and make sure that all options such as credit cards are unchecked, and that only PayPal Website Payments Standard is checked. This will make it so that every order is sent to PayPal. Once a customer goes to the PayPal website, they will be able to choose whether they would like to pay with their PayPal account or with a credit card. They will not make this selection in your ShopSite store. They will make this selection on the PayPal website. From a ShopSite point of view, every order is a PayPal order.

To configure PayPal Website Payments Standard, go to Commerce Setup > Payment, and uncheck all options (such as credit cards), leaving only PayPal Website Payments Standard checked. Then configure PayPal Website Payments Standard. All you need to do on the configure screen is enter the email address associated with your PayPal account. Save changes on this screen, then save changes on the payment screen, and test your shopping cart.

If PayPal is NOT the only processor you are going to be using, for example if you are going to process your credit cards manually in a brick and mortar store, or if you have an online payment gateway for credit card processing (http://www.shopsite.com/cc_101.html) then you will want to configure PayPal Express Checkout. With PayPal Express Checkout, customers are only given the option of using their PayPal account for payment. To configure this option, you will want to go into your PayPal account > Business Setup > PayPal Express Checkout > Start Now > Request API Credentials, and continue through, then copy and paste the API information into ShopSite under Commerce Setup > Payment > Configure PayPal Express Checkout.
