Invalid Price on database upload

Postby mjbrunelle » Mon Feb 07, 2011 9:54 am

Can't figure this one out.

Doing an upload of database to update pricing. Some records we are getting this message:

Error: There is an incorrect numeric value or format in one of your fields.
Please check for invalid characters or misplaced punctuation and try again.
This record was NOT created.
Upload record number: 4
Record name: BB 7/64 M7 HHS HD 135SP RHS BGO
Field name: Price
1.14000

Price of the item before is 1.05, price for the item after is 1.31 and they upload fine.

Items are the same cell format in an Excel 2003 upload file, formatted to 1.14, in Excel.

Any suggestions as it seems to be random as to which records upload and those that are rejected.

The easiest way to prevent this type of problem is to make sure you have the cells formatted as number with 2 decimal places. Then select all the rows and columns and copy it. Then paste it into a text editor and save the file as a text file. Then upload that file instead of the Excel formatted one. Since you can't see the actual formatting codes that Excel uses, it is almost impossible to ensure that every cell has the same formatting. But the copy and paste method seems to work consistently.
