Export files for back up....

Postby bkgca » Wed Nov 24, 2010 7:16 pm

When I go to the back office, Utilities , Export Store...
and export any of the first 3 ( haven't tried reports) , and then attempt to open the Zipped files that have been saved to my local harddrive, I get an error message ...

"WinZip
error [C:\path....\Templates-V10.2.2-storename-lotsofnumbers-date.zip]: start of central directory not found; Zip file corrupt.
Possible cause:file transfer error "

Click "ok" that one window, and another appears..

"WinZip
Cannot open file: it does not appear to be a valid archive.
If you downloaded this file, try downloading the file again. "

Tried each of the 1st three a couple of times, same problem.

I'm using FF and Winzip.

Any ideas?

TIA

Have you tried using the built in windows unzip functionality. I think you right click on the file and an option is given to extract the contents.

There are also a number of free unzip programs for download such as pkunzip, 7zip, winrar, etc. You might try downloading one of those and see if it works there.

Note that if you ftpd the file from one machine to another it must be done in binary mode or the file will be corrupted.

tnx for the reply.

I'm using WinZip, fairly recent revision (last year), which hasn't ever failed me.

As suggested, tried the windows xp resident zip (via the right mouse key context menu) (Open with - Compressed (zipped) Folders) and get same basic error, small error window pops up..

"Compressed (zipped) Folders Error
The Compressed (zipped) Folder is invalide or corrupted. "

I'm using FF, and allowed Shopsite to offer the file for download, and downloaded it through FF.
I didn't use an external / manual ftp.

tnx

Just tried an external download manager , FF plugin, did the export again from within SS back office, same results, same errors trying to open up the zipped files.
(Utilities - Export Store - (pick a category to export, press "Next". New screen "Export to Local Computer" press "Download" )

In neither the FF or external add on, can I see how to make sure / force it into Binary.
But both have worked with downloading many other zipped files from this site (WP backup files) (and others), and all which open fine.
So I assume both are transferring in Binary.

Other .txt back up files from within SS back office, while not compressed, straight .txt files, are fine.
(Utilities - Database - Download)
