Custom fields for customer records?

Postby DB » Tue Jul 27, 2010 10:53 am

I am involved in migrating someone from an old ecomemrce system to shopsite. I'm not the database person/web developer, but I've been handling content, and now apparently customer info migration.

Anyway, he has a customer database that is over 100,000 records, and I can get some of that info over to shopsite...Name, email, etc.

Now, the problem arises in some missing fields:

The old ecommerce had the capacity to handle some more customer information.

We would like to create a couple more fields in the customer information page to hold things like notes on the customer. Basically, a simple text field in the customer info pane would cover all our needs, but it doesn't seem to exist.

Is there any way to do this?

No, it is not currently possible to add any custom fields to the Customer Registration customer records.

You can store limited customer specific information

We use the customer name field and the group name to store customer specific information.

Title Field - we store the customer acct number

First Name Field - customer specific image

Suffix Field - customer unique link for customer specific page

You have to go into "SHIPPING LAYOUT" and turn these fields off for use in the address specifications. You can then update the "STORE TEXT" so that the middle name is the first name. Really it is up to you which fields you use.

For your field, change the "STORE TEXT" for say the Title Field to what ever label you want. Then set up the input filed in your template.

Also we have found we can create a unique group per customer. The group name appears in the Cookie when the customer logs on. By using Javascript and variable specific delimiters, you can pass what information you want. We use the group name to detail the customers discount and update the product price to reflect the discount in the store page, and we use the group name as a unique page name, so we can a have a custom page for that customer.
