Minicart does not show subtotal

Postby Yachtsman » Tue Dec 29, 2009 4:27 pm

I'm using the Curved.sst template. It shows a "You Shopping Cart" box in the upper right of each page. When there are items in the cart it used to show some detail and subtotal. Now all I get is the box with a "continue to Your Shopping Cart" link. The link works and the info in the cart is correct.

Is there a switch somewhere that I'm missing?

The setting to enable the Mini-Cart (which is only a feature in ShopSite Pro) is located at the bottom of the Commerce Setup -> Order System -> Layout Info menu.

That turns the display of the minicart on and off but it did not have any effect on the sub-total display.

Any other thoughts?

Is the domain name on the shopping cart screen the same as the domain name on the store pages? If not then the cookie set in the shopping cart can not be read by the store pages.

Some hosts set up the shopping cart to a shared location and it is the same domain name for all merchants so the minicart will not work in those cases.

I just got this response from the company hosting my site:
"Unfortunately, ShopSite minicart is not supported on our windows platform. This is the reason the minicart is not working on your website.

We do support minicart on one of our sister company www.powweb.com. PowWeb.com is on UNIX based architecture. Hence, minicart is supported on it.
"

Is this really a windows problem or just how they have their system setup?

It is not a Windows problem. It is how they have their server configured so all stores use the same url for the shopping cart. So store pages can't access the cookie that the shopping cart sets since it has a different domain name.

I also am having the same problem with Curves theme and the mini-cart: FatCow keeps my ordering information on their host's server (not my url as a sub-directory)
HOWEVER - the "Gift Certificate" page, also resident on the server, DOES show the mini-cart!!! What gives:
here is the URL for the minicart that shows-up:

Nope, the Gift Certificate page is on the domain shopsite.fatcow.com (the same domain as the shopping cart files), while your storefront pages are on the domain sundancekisses.com. The mini-cart will only work on pages that are on the same domain (or a subdomain of the same domain) as the shopping cart.

So the mini-cart will work on your store pages as long as they are accessed on the domain sundancekiss.fatcow.com. If it switches over to sundancekisses.com, the mini-cart will not work.

This is probably why none of the alterations (new header art background, etc) done on the site work for the Orders, Gift Certificate, Shopping Cart and Check Out pages - work either!

By the way, over the weekend I looked at this site on various PC's running various operating systems. Some did not view the uploaded header background art visible on most of the pages at the URL below. HOW COME?? Is is Vista? How do I make the PC' Internet Explorer see the jpeg resident as the header for all these pages?
These machines also "Force" the html container window to fill the screen so no background shows, and the photos/column widths for product are all distorted. Your Curves.sst template has a fixed width for the container - is there also a way to "unforce" this to make these PC's "read" the fixed width?

Your store is not at http://www.sundancekisses.com as far as ShopSite knows. The store pages are being published to http://www.sundancekisses.com/store .

If you view the pages from that location they show the page background images and the header images.

If you want your store pages at the root of the domain you would need to get an autorization file with that url instead of the one with /store. (A bunch of other things would have to be done to move it to that url as well)
