Permissions problem

Postby gkrehbiel » Wed Jan 06, 2010 7:24 am

We lost a server and had to move our shopsite install to another box, and now I'm getting a strange permissions error.

I can create a page and preview it, but when I publish it I get an error.

It gives me the address of the file and then says "errno: Permission denied"

My IT guy says the permissions on that folder are the same as they were on the old box.

What else can I look for or try?

Thanks,

Greg

Looking in Preferences -> Hosting Service, is the setting for Output Directory correct? (That's the directory to which ShopSite publishes, it's a server path, not a URL).

Looking in that directory is the directory owner and group correct (check files, parent directories and child directories too). Does the web server process have permission to write to that directory?

The files weren't owned by the right process. It's working now.

What do you mean by the above and how did you solve this?

Here's what my IT guy says

I don't administer the server, but here's what the guy who does said.

"If it’s a linux box they need to make sure all of the shopsite files are owned by the correct user and has correct permissions. These would need to be set by the linux administrator. Different files may need different ownership and permissions you would have to check the shopsite documentation. The best way to troubleshoot is to check the permissions on each file that you get the error."
