Leading Zero in SKU cause problems

We have suppliers with Part Numbers that start with 0. The search function will not find these SKU numbers. Nor will the upload function find the product.

Example, Two parts whose difference is a 1/2 in length, SKU 05717 is not found, 05717A is found.

Creates problems when uploading product price changes, Product Search will not find these SKU's (05717)

Obviously the systems is treating the SKU as a number instead of text and trimming the front zero.

Any Suggestions beyond changing part numbers?

Make sure you have the search set to index numbers:
Preferences -> Search Settings -> Indexing ->"Index numbers"

then publish/regen.
