255 character limit on imports?

I am trying to load products from an excel spreadsheet. One of the cells has a description that I am trying to load into the Product Field 1 field but it keeps cutting off at character 255. I tried loading into the description field in case the Product field was set to a lower limit but I get the same problem.
Am I doing something wrong or is it set to 255 characters for some reason?

Are you upload the .xls file itself (which would require ShopSite 10 sp1 or newer), or a text file exported from Excel?

Well I figured it out.
Actually setting the cell width to around 200, forcing text-wrapping and changing the height of the cells to be able to see all the text solved the problem.
