moving a shopsite installation

Postby luciano991 » Sun Apr 11, 2010 8:19 pm

Hi,

I have moved my website and its shopsite installation to a new host. I have not repointed the domain name servers as yet, but the store seems to work OK (no transactions of course because the new static IP is not yet online). But I can't get into the back end of the installation at www.mydomain.com/cgi-bin/ss/start.cgi. I get a server error. Will this resolve itself once the domain name is repointed or is there something else that has to be configured.

thanks,

luciano

You can add an entry to your local computer's "hosts" file. See http://support.shopsite.com/KBase/questions/2478

If you still get a server error then there is a problem with your server configuration or ShopSite installation.

editing the hosts file

Postby luciano991 » Mon Apr 12, 2010 5:02 pm

OK I have a mac and i haven't got time to learn the command line and even finding the hosts file is going to be a problem. I'm not having a problem logging into the back end of the stores on the two sites I'm trying to move on the current server. So let's assume it's an installation problem. The files were just basically copied over.

I read a post that said it's better to install a fresh install on the new host and then migrate the databases using the upload and download utilities in the back end. So where can I download a copy of Shopsite Manager v. 8.2.1.1?

Thanks,

luciano

Just copying the files from one server to another definitely will not work. You need to run the install on the new server so that the paths, urls symlinks etc are set correctly. Where is your store hosted, both old and new stores?

If you are not moving the store to a ShopSite partner then you will need to contact ShopSite sales for download information.

Here is the information I posted in regards to your other post really early this morning.
==========================
If you do not want to upgrade to a newer version of ShopSite you just use the older version install. If your new host is a ShopSite partner they should be able to do that for you. If they are not a partner you would need to contact the ShopSite sales department for access information to the install files. You can use the form on http://shopsite.com/ready-3.html to contact sales.

Note if you are moving from one partner to another or from a partner to a non-partner host you will need to get a new authorization file. If you were at a partner sited and had a monthly leased license and are moving to a non-partner site you will probably need to purchase a paidup one time license since monthly license are only allowed through partners.

Thanks. I have contacted the sales dept using the form you suggested. Surprisingly the migration actually worked except for being able to access the backend. But a reinstall and database migration strategy seems to be the best route. Thanks for your assistance.

All the best,

Mark
