Inserting an optional question in checkout procedure

Postby rblack » Mon Mar 22, 2010 11:54 am

How would I add an optional question somewhere in the 'check out' section for customers to tell me how they heard about my site (in order to improve and refine my advertising efforts [ROI?])? ie; Google ad, link from other website etc.

Thanks ahead of time for any help.

It is possible to use the ordering instructions box; you can rename it and ask how people found your site. The ordering instructions box can be turned on by going to Commerce Setup > Order System > Shopping Cart. To rename it, you would go to Preferences > Store Text > Shopping Cart.

There is also an option to create a customer comments box on the checkout page. It is found under Commerce Setup > Order System > Checkout.

RE: Asking "How did you find us" of your customers

Nicole, thanks for both replies. I'm thinking the latter is a better solution as I'd like to retain the ordering instructions field. Actually I think I have to, with the way I have stuff set up.
Anyway, I'll go back in and see if I can find that feature. If I can't it's likely I'm using a version of ShopSite from the late Mesozoic era, in which case I'll brace myself for a swift and severe barrage of ridicule (not necessarily from you) Thanks for the info, I might be back. -Bob

Update-
Nicole, I'm using Shopsite Manager 10 r 7.2 I did see the customer comments option but I'm thinking that is the one I use for special ordering instructions. Now I'm not sure......I'll check again. In any case I don't see a way to customize it to ask my question.

There are two customer comment boxes you can tell ShopSite to display during the checkout process. The first is what is usually called the Ordering Instructions box. This one is enabled by going to Commerce Setup > Order System > Shopping cart. It appears on the first page of the checkout.

The second box is the Comments/More information box. This one is enabled by going to Commerce Setup > Order System > Checkout. It appears on the second page of the checkout.

You can change the headers for these two boxes by going to Preferences > Store Text > Shopping Cart (or Checkout, depending on the box you are editing).

That way the header for the field can just be your question; unless you need more customization than that.

Custom Fields

Postby MgmtSpec » Tue Mar 23, 2010 8:34 am

Why not use the custom fields options? Create the custom field, name it something like referral, use the "Select" type, choose where you want the results shown (email, etc). Then add the select menu in HTML- Before the Payment Fields for example. Check the SS help docs for examples. This is under Commerce Setup - Customize Ordering System - Checkout Screen. This just makes it part of the form that is submitted.

Custom Checkout fields is a Pro level feature so it would not be in the version that they have. " [I'm using Shopsite Manager 10 r 7.2 ]"
