White glove inside delivery fee

Postby realwoodamishfurniture » Sat Feb 27, 2010 9:24 am

Our online furniture store offers two kinds of shipping: to the curb (standard), and white glove inside delivery (extra charge). Is there a way in Shopsite to offer the inside delivery service and include the extra fee in the order?

Sure. The easiest way is to use one of the built-in shipping options (like shipping by weight or shipping by currency) and have two options to represent the regular rate and white gloves rate (build in the extra charge).

Then you can customize the shipping text under:
Preferences -> Store Text -> Shipping

Another option is to use the surcharge feature (Pro version) to have a dropdown the customer can select that adds the extra charge for in-house delivery:
Commerce Setup -> Order System -> Shopping Cart -> "Surcharge"

That almost works. I am using Flat Each Shipping. If I use either the weight or currency option, I get to specify the white glove premium rate, but I lose all the per item charges.

Example of how it should work:

Three items ordered with normal delivery:
$10 + $10 + $10 = $30

Three items ordered with white glove inside delivery:
$10 + $10 + $10 +$50 = $80

How it fails using the suggested weight/currency solution:

Three items ordered with normal delivery:
$10 (only charges for one item)

Three items ordered with white glove inside delivery:
$50 (loses all the per item charges)

I am using Shopsite Manager. Perhaps this is one of those things that cannot be done in Manager and requires Pro. If so, it would be the only thing I've needed so far that isn't handled nicely by Manager.

With Pro, the surcharge would work nicely. It would be a dropdown that the customer could choose inside delivery and it would add $50.

A workaround in Manager could be to have a product named "white glove inside delivery" that has no shipping charges applied but costs $50. You could put the "add to cart" button on the cart for them to add this service to the cart.

Or, you could use an ordering option for each product that says white glove delivery that adds $50 to the price of the product. This might not work well if they order more than one product though, as it could get confusing.

You could try using shipping by weight and set your weights up and the shipping chart in such a way that it approximates your desired rates for each method.

This sounds like just the thing. Would you give me a little more detail regarding how to add such a button to the cart? Thanks.

Sure. I would copy and paste the add to cart html code found under:
Merchandising -> Order Anywhere -> (select product) -> Show selected HTML

in your cart where you want the option to appear. You can place it in the header or footer, or in one of the text fields under:
Preferences -> Store Text -> Shopping Cart

Thanks, that works. I'm even going to make an "Inside Delivery" gif image so the customer can click on an "Inside Delivery" button instead of an "Add to Cart" button.
