Changing order numbers

Postby OYY26E » Sun Jan 17, 2010 4:21 pm

The SS help files says that the order number is incremented 1 at a time and that it cannot be changed - WHY?

The ordering system that starts with 1234 and increments 1 at a time looks amateurish. I have had SS for some time but this one issue has me looking for a more professional alternative.

Why is this such an issue? The following suggestion from SS help is not available. I think this is a really serious issue. Can someone explain why this is such a difficult thing? Why shouldn't the merchant be able to assign whatever order number they want and increment it in whatever way they like?

THX

"You can not change the way ShopSite assigns order numbers, but if you have Shell or FTP access, you can change the starting order number. To do this, find the file named ordernum in the store Shop Site Data Directory (you can find the path to this directory listed at the bottom of the Preferences -> Hosting Service screen) and change the number in the file. Here is additional info about increasing the order number (of subsequent orders) from the ShopSite Knowledgebase:

It is fairly simple, if you have FTP access to your ShopSite Data Directory (or some kind of control panel file manager access to it), since it is just a text file.
