Authorize.net validation

Is it possible to customize the error message in the shopping cart on Shopsite when Authorize.net validation throws an error?

For example, AVS is enabled and a customer orders with a different address than what's on their credit card.

The error message itself can be modified on the Preferences > Store Text > Messages screen. But there is no way to vary the message depending on what the values returned from the payment gateway are.
