password recovery emails not being sent

Postby barnstormer » Wed Dec 09, 2009 6:36 pm

I have a ShopSite installation on a client site where the password reminder emails are not being received. I contacted my hosting service and received the following reply:

The password reset emails are being sent, however our outbound spam filter are catching them. These are unfortunately necessary in order to protect the reputation and integrity of our networks. I am including the reasons for them being flagged below, if you adjust the actual content of these emails they should go through successfully. Please let us know if you do have any other issues or questions. Thanks!

> Points Rule name Description
> ---- ---------------------- --------------------------------------------------
> 0.00 NO_REAL_NAME From: does not include a real name

> 0.55 HTML_IMAGE_RATIO_02 BODY: HTML has a low ratio of text to image area

> 0.00 HTML_MESSAGE BODY: HTML included in message

> 2.43 HTML_IMAGE_ONLY_08 BODY: HTML: images with 400-800 bytes of words

> 0.00 MIME_HTML_ONLY BODY: Message only has text/html MIME parts

> 1.08 HTML_SHORT_LINK_IMG_1 HTML is very short with a linked image

I do not know how to modify the email message that is being sent. Can someone at ShopSite please assist with this issue?

Thank you.

You can edit the customer registration template (or copy the standard one you're using to a custom template) and look near the bottom for the section:

[-- DEFINE Forgot_Password_Email --]

This section controls how the forgot password email is formatted. You could try adding more text in the footer to lower the spam score about only 400-800 bytes.

Thanks for your suggestion, robm. I tried a variety of combinations, but the messages still wouldn't get out of the outbound spam filters on the mail server.

I finally was able to get the messages through after the hosting co. whitelisted the domain. (Very generous on their part and not something they would usually do!)

Now I've received my first "Forgot Password" email. Instead of being provided with my password, the message states "Please click on the link below in order to change your password." There is no link, rather there is an image in its place. I can see why the message would look spam-like.

Clicking the image takes me to the Registration page and I see an error message of "Sorry, your link has timed out." But, it had only been a few minutes!

I'm not sure what to do at this point.

There isn't a setting for a timeout on that email Are you sure you're seeing the correct forgot password email?

What template are you using, one of the ShopSite provided ones or a custom made one?

Is there more than one email that could be generated? I received an email with the subject line of "Forgot Password".

The error message is shown on the registration.cgi page after I click the link.

What template are you using, one of the ShopSite provided ones or a custom made one?

I'm using SS 8.1.3 with the Cross Sell template. I've customized colors and banner images, but have not dabbled with the template code.

I can send a screenshot to you via the forum message system, if that would be helpful.

I tried in a test store and waited an hour and the link was still valid. However, If I went to the link and changed the password and then clicked the link again I did get the message that the link had expired. So is that what you saw?
