discount multipling by 3

I have a coupon for $5 off $25 or more. I type in $5 discount type and $25.00 cart min and it multiplies it by three when someone uses the coupon code in the shopping cart. So it gives a -$15!
What is going on?
I have checked it and even made a new coupon.
Please help!

If you have the coupon configured to only apply to specific products, then by default it will be applied for EACH of those products that are added to the cart. If you only want the coupon to apply once, then make sure you check the 'Allow only 1 product per redeemed coupon' checkbox in the coupon settings.

After you make any changes to the coupon you should probably empty your shopping cart and re-add the coupon in order to see the changes applied.

Yes, I did go back and enter different quantities on the same item, and I guess it doesn't just multiply by 3, it increases with each increase of quantity.
So I understand what you are saying, but then will it apply to items I don;t want included in the discount?
Also, if they have 2 items that total $25 or more, will it apply in this case if I select the one item option?

No. Please check the 'Allow only 1 product per redeemed coupon' checkbox in the coupon settings.
