CSC Check and voiding of a transaction

Postby DDreslough » Tue Dec 02, 2008 1:10 pm

Hello!

I have a new shopsite situation that may be a bug...but maybe I'm just not understanding how things work.

We use ShopSite 10 with Payflow Pro to sell software downloads, so we use the "Sale" method for instant results.

I had a user today order our product. She entered the wrong CSC code, which our system is set to reject. Amazingly and beyond all logic, her BANK actually authorized the charge and let it go through! (I've never had this happen before...they've always done a result code 12/denied when the CSC is wrong. I guess this bank loves hackers.)

The problem is, ShopSite, because we set it to check the CSC result, did not let her sale complete. And, it did not issue the void correctly. It made two "N" transactions, but those are meaningless to the system. If she hadn't emailed me she would have been charged but never received her game! We would have ended up with a chargeback.

Do we have a bug here? Or am I not understanding how the system works? If you need more info, please email me at dee@sportsmogul.com and I can send you more details.

excerpt:
Fixed an issue where stores using the PayPal Payflow Pro gateway with Reject on AVS, AVS ZIP, or CVV2 failure options enabled would have have the Authorization or Sale transactions that failed these checks remain as valid transactions in their Payflow Pro account without being voided.

We have a new shopsite instance where I had "Reject on CVV2 failure" turned on (without investigating the consequences). Sales transactions that were rejected were not getting voided but voiding was attempted by ShopSite. Actually, we have PayFlow as a gateway with PayPal as a processor (I hope I got those terms right) which does not allow voiding of sales transactions. For authorizing transaction, voids are permitted but for sales, no voiding. Don't ask me why.

I'm assuming that in this situation, the 'fix' listed in 10.6 above is not going to help because to reject a CVV2 failure a void is required (stupid banks!). (We are at 10.7) Am I correct?

Correct, the issue mentioned in the kbase was that the void transactions were not being sent. In your case, the void transactions are being sent, they just have no effect. If your Sale transactions can't just be voided, then you will probably have to issue a refund via your PayPal Manager.
