Product ID on upload

Postby mjbrunelle » Fri Jul 31, 2009 5:29 am

Per the ShopSite help pages, in an effort to create a quick order pad - I uploaded a test of 20 products with setting the 'ProductID' to a whole integer that matched my SKU. Per the help pages this should have been the 'itemnumber'

However when I publish the page and then look at the source in VisualStudio, the 'itemnumber' is set to a ShopSite generated value.

How can I reference a record per the set 'ProductID'

You can't set the Product ID, that is the internal database record number for the product. To match records you should use the SKU and Name fields. The Product ID will remain the same unless you delete the product and then upload it again. During page generation the appropriate Product ID will be placed on the page.

Please note that in the ShopSite V10 Help and Resource under Upload fields Product ID is defined:

Product ID - the ShopSite database ID for the product.

Field Type: Numeric
Default Value: Lowest unused positive integer
Possible Values: Any positive integer

Gives you the impression that as long as you use a unique identifier which is a positive integer, you can set this input. Would make searching the database very easy since now you can use the ShopSite standard routines.

Thx for the help

I'll have the documentation updated to reflect that the field can not used in uploads.
