SKU's and the number of spaces between subproducts

Hello:

Is there a fixed number of spaces that occur between the two parts of a sub products sku?

For example, sku 89700 345689. What would be the number of spaces in the product database between the 89700 and 345689? I down loaded the products database and looked and it appears the number of spaces is two.

I need to figure this out so I can tell our programmer. We are building an external database in which we are combining all our inventory sources (our own inventory and suppliers) and then going to populate the quantity on hand field.

In our case our backend management program has a different number of spaces between sub products than the shopsite products database subproducts do.

ShopSite doesn't insert spaces so there are as many as you entered when the product was created.
