Website design: What should it cost? Where should I go?

I am very anxious to set up a webstore for video games, but I do not know how much I should be offering to a web designer to get a good looking website. To those who have hired someone to design their website, will you share you experiences? And share how much it cost? And who is good to go through?

Cost can very greatly depending on what you want done. If you need a specific layout then it would be best to contact several of the designers directly and see what they charge.
