Greetings:
Some of the items we sell are designed for specific motorcycles. For example, Luggage Rack for Honda Shadow 1100 2000-2009.
We've designed our site so that products for specific makes and models of motorcycles are found by drilling down into departments.
For example, we have a luggage rack dept, then within that dept there are depts for the various makes of motorcycles such as Honda. Then within the luggage racks for Honda motorcycles there is a listing of each model of luggage rack thats available. The customer has to visit each luggage rack offered and then use the dropdown to see if that rack will fit their bike.
This works ok. But I was thinking we might deploy some system that would allow people to also shop by make, model and year.
For example they'd be allowed to choose from a dropdown in this case honda. Then another dropdown would present the models of honda motorcycles we offer parts for, in this case shadow 1100 and then another drop down that shows the years, in this case 2005. Then Shopsite would produce a page listing ALL products applicable to that specific bike, this being the honda shadow 1100 2005. The page would show luggage racks and any other specific fit items applicable to that specific bike. (There are usually about 20 specific fit items per bike at most. So we dont have to worry about a page having 100's of products.)
As to how to achieve this:
I know there are extra fields for each product in the shopsite products database. Perhaps these could be used to populate what:
Make - one of the extra fields
model - another one of the other extra fields
year - another one of the extra fields
So in a general conception view, is it possible to have Shopsite produce a page listing all the products that fit a specific motorcycle?
Thanks
Tim
