Bringing website from hosted to our own servers

Postby FlaGatorMan » Mon Oct 20, 2008 7:04 pm

Hello all..

We currently have our site hosted and was wondering what it would take to bring it onsite. We have our own servers and a large broadband T3 connection. So what else other than the Shopsite software and hardware will we need to make this project happen?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Gator

You may want to read about the technical requirements for ShopSite in the help at:http://shopsite.com/help/10.0/en-US/install/tech_ref.html

Also if your store is hosted at a ShopSite partner you may have a monthly authorization file for the store but if you move it to your own server you will probably need to get a one time purchase license.

Just got finished reading the link you sent out and I was reading about setting up a MALL. So please clarify for me.. If I have 4 seperate urls..

www.mystore1.com
www.mystore2.com
www.mystore3.com
www.mystore4.com

I can have separate orders and separate inventory for all 4 stores?

Yes, in a mall situation all the stores share the same cgis but have separate data and output directories. Note that each store requires a separate license.

This has some advantages such as being able to run an upgrade once and have all store updated at the same time. There is also a saving on disk space, which probably much for 4 stores but if you had hundreds it would add up. Now considering the size of hard drives it's not as much an issue as a few years ago.

Disadvantages are that in a mall all stores will be upgraded if only one person wants the upgrade which may cause stress on some merchants who like the "way things are". Also sharing cgis can cause problems if you allow merchants to have OrderAPI or custom shipping addons etc. An errant cgi could cause problems that would not occur if each store were in a separate area.

If all the stores are your own the above issues probably won't make much difference.

Thanks Jim for the quick reply and yes all the stores would fall under our corporate company. Is there a discount for multiple license or are they all full retail prices? Im hoping there is a discount !!

Fill out the form on http://shopsite.com/ready-3.html and someone from the sales department will contact you regarding pricing.
