Prices for Product "samples"

Postby MgmtSpec » Sun Aug 17, 2008 8:39 pm

Hello,

I'm working ona site with several thousand products. Almost all will have an option for a 'sample' for either one of 2 prices.

So I have the options to set up a second product and use order anywhere link, doubling my number of items OR use 'subproducts to simply layout but still requires double products OR use drop down to change price - which is too complex for the number of items I have since it would require lots of calculations - deducting from base price, then needing to add and have enough drop downs for most orders.

Am I missing a better way?

Please explain what you are needing a little clearer.
What version (8.2, 9.0 etc) and product level (pro, manager, Starter) of ShopSite to you have?
Will a person be able to purchase multiple of the "sample" products at the lower price? Why do you need the different prices? Have you considered using the "Sale" price option? Have you considered quantity pricing? Have you considered using a coupon for lowering the price? Would the reward functionality work for you?

Sample items

Hi!

Using SS Pro 9.0.4
2 prices for samples - either $5 or $25
Several thousand different items (skus) at hundreds of various prices.
Base price goes from about $20 to $250
Items are rolls of paper.
Samples are small PART of roll - not an entire unit - which is what complicates it.

IF there was a way to just make 2 products and somehow auto fill a value for what they want a sample of that would be ideal. I can't figure a reliable way to do so. JS has its limits.

Drop down pricing or coupons is a nightmare due to having to calculate off so many different base prices

Customer typically would not order more than a single sample of a paper roll, but may order serveral samples from several different rolls.
In other words they would oder ONE sample of item A, one of item B, etc.

Any ideas anyone? Maybe sub product is most logical?

Is the sample a certain percentage of the full roll price? If so just use order options and configure it like this.

Sample;*.10
Full roll

(Note that the ;*.10 after Sample would compute a cost of 10% of the base price of the product.)

Then in the order option description you can put a comment like "Sample is a partial roll costing x% of the full roll price" Order of the options isn't critical so you could have Full roll first if that is what most of your shoppers purchase. Then they would only have to use the pull down if they want to get just a sample.

It would be simple matter to include the order options in your product upload by just putting "Full Roll|n|Sample;*.1" in the field Option Menu Text. (I assume you will be doing an upload if you have thousands of products.) If you have more options you just separate the by the |n| delimiter for example, Full Roll|n|Sample;*.10|n|Double Roll.
