Product Template Mess

Postby tmlogo » Mon Aug 04, 2008 3:13 pm

I'm currently developing product templates specific to different groups of products. For example sake, let's say I make a product with Template A. For some reason, other products now appear to look like they were developed with Template A, but they were done with Template B, and when I check it says they are still using Template B. I don't understand how the format can totally change to look like Template A.

I'm wondering if there is some cross over with subproducts or the pages they are on, or am I not able to use a variety of templates in one store?

I'm using Shopsite 8.3

Thanks for any help.....

Are you talking about the layout of the More Info Pages? If so, and if you are assigning products as Subproducts in your store, then please check to make sure that the "Use subproduct's template for More Info Pages" checkbox is checked.

If you are talking about the product layout on the Pages, then are you using a custom page template or a default ShopSite page template? A page template can force products displayed on that page to use a certain product template, this would be accomplished by adding the product template name as a parameter to the [-- PRODUCT --] tag within the LOOP PRODUCTS loop in the page template.

Thanks Loren....

Sorry I didn't specify. I am working with the "More Info Page". I have the subproducts looping for each specific product. That is working fine.

I don't understand "check to make sure that the "Use subproduct's template for More Info Pages" checkbox is checked" Where do I do that?

I'm so confused as to why some products defaulted to a different template then the one that shows for them.

Sorry if I sound frantic..... just a little stressed : (

Thanks again.[/quote]

Sorry, I should have specified that the "Use subproduct's template for More Info Pages" checkbox is in Utilities -> Publish. Please go here and make sure this is checked if you are using More Info Pages and Subproducts.

New Day.... New Problem....;-)

Now some of the products aren't using the new template. They are still using the old template even though I've changed it under template for the product.

I've done a test, and on some products that are using the new template everything is fine. On others the product shifts between the new template and the old one each time I "Publish". Some products won't ever use the new template.

Thanks again for any assistance.

Are all pages in the store using the same template?
Are all products in the store using the same tempate?
Is the problem on store pages or More Information pages?
Is your page template using a product template override value?
Are products assigned to a single page or can they be assigned to more than one page.
Do you have more than one product or page that are using the same file name?

I have a couple of templates. But page with products are all using the same template.
Are all products in the store using the same tempate?
No - I'm trying to implement different templates for different products. The only differences will be in the "More Info Pages"
Is the problem on store pages or More Information pages?
More Information Pages
Is your page template using a product template override value?
I don't know - I don't believe so, but I'm not sure where to check
Are products assigned to a single page or can they be assigned to more than one page.
More than one page
Do you have more than one product or page that are using the same file name?
No

First check to see if your page templates are using the product template override functionality. In the [-- LOOP PRODUCTS --] section of the page template look at the [-- PRODUCT --] tag. If it says just that then you are ok but if if say [-- PRODUCT template --] where "template" is the name of some template then the template is overriding the products default template and that will cause the moreinformation page to be generated based on that template.

Do you have subproducts in your store? If so is the same product to multiple products as a subproduct? If that is the case then the moreinfo page for the subproduct will be generated using the template of the first product that is generated during the publish cycle. In this case you want to check the box "Use subproduct's template for More Info Pages " on the Utilities > Publish page so that the subproduct will always use the product template assigned to it instead of the parent product template.

I have checked and I'm fine on the Page Templates.

I do have subproducts and they are used multiple times. I already have checked the box for "use subproduct's template for More Info Pages". I've even tried removing subproducts from some products and the problem still occurs.

How are you publishing the store, only when the Publish tab pops up or using Utilities > Publish > Regenerate?

I usually use just the Publish, but I tried the regenerate this morning and it didn't make a difference.
