Pull Down List and change the price on the fly with a ;+5

I have a custom product template where I pass the cart a value from a pull down list for a product. For each product I increase or decrease the price with the ;+amount or ;-amount. Interesting enough unless I put some generic value like one (any value works) under the product page in Pull-down Menus filed, the cart does not increase the price and just forwards the normal product price defined in the product page.

Is this a know bug?

This is how it is suppose to work. The ;+ or ;- is an adjustment to the order options in the pulldown list. If you aren't using a pulldown list it isn't going to work.
