Ordering Options Limit

Postby dortchjm » Sat Jul 26, 2008 12:23 pm

Is there a limit to the number of ordering options you can have for a product? I'm thinking of having one with 1000+ options.

As far as ShopSite is concerned there is no limit. I would think that having something with that many options would confuse a customer though. There may also be limits in some browswers as to how much data can be stuck into one form field like that.

I agree, it could get confusing. I'm just brainstorming, trying to figure out an easy way to list tons of products with prices temporarily while I build the individual pages. Maybe I should look more into building Excel spreadsheets and loading that way. I have found the Works Spreadsheet will not handle large fields and tends to truncate, I haven't tried Excel yet.

Thanks,

Excel or even Access will be a good answer here, I think. Works just isn't up to the task of being useful in a business environment, in my experience.

If you use a header row and put in the appropriate data beneath it, it's relatively easy to import everything you want (Names, Prices, appropriate templates) at once.

I purchased a copy of MS Excel 2007 over the weekend. Much more powerful than Works spreadsheet, I was losing half of my data with that one.

You might want to review a couple of Kbase solutions dealing with issues that might arise when using Excel

Another good option which is free and could have saved you some money is Openoffice. It has Openoffice Calc which allows you to do most of what you do in Excel. I personally like it better then Excel but both work well
