Creating a THEME

Postby Meemee » Fri Jun 06, 2008 10:43 am

So I've pretty much created all the templates I need for my shopsite, but I can't figure out or find information on how to get it all together in one theme. Can someone tell me, or point me in the right direction to get information on doing that?

Creating a Theme

I don't think you need to create a "theme." Shopsite just uses the themes to create a unified selection of templates for the store.

You just assign your own templates to the various sections as needed through the Back Office Screens (ie. Page, Product, Gift Certificate, Tell-A-Friend, Cart, Registration, etc)

I'd like to make it into a theme so that when I create pages, it can default to my custom template. I plan on having many many pages, and it would be easier to set it up that way.

ShopSite doesn't have a custom themes feature yet. I suppose you could try modifying one of the existing themes files if you have access to them (usually in cgi-bin/sc/templates/themes/), however I would suggest making a backup of all of your data before you do something like this, because again it isn't a supported feature and if you screw something up you are going to need the backups. Also note that all of the default themes and templates in the cgi-bin/sc/templates/ subdirectories will be overwritten on an upgrade of ShopSite, so plan on making your modifications again each time you upgrade.

Thanks Loren!

Editing an existing theme(and renaming it) worked for me. You saved me a lot of trouble.

Again, you'll probably have to repeat this next time your ShopSite is upgraded.

That won't be a problem. It was just a matter of changing the urls to the templates I wanted to use. I'd rather change it with each update then change the template for each page and each product. (3000+ different products.)

If you have ShopSite Pro you don't have to set the template individually for all 3000+ products. Using a global PowerEdit in Products you can set templates on all products at once, and using a global PowerEdit in Pages you can do the same for all pages.

Typical me. Only I'd miss the obvious solution to something like that. Thanks for letting me know. I'm such a dummy.
