where are the template files? (missing something basic)

Postby jollygreen » Tue Apr 15, 2008 6:51 am

Not sure if this is due to lack of sleep or if I'm actually missing some files.

I have built my page and product pages in html and added all of the shopsite tags. where am I supposed to upload these files? I've uploaded them to the 'store' directory, but 'publishing' doesn't invoke these pages at all.

i can change the template within the shopsite backend and republish, but that doesn't help. I should be creating a new template, right? Looking at the shopsite interface, I don't see a place to copy and paste my code or construct a new template.

Please feel free to point to the place on the ShopSite site where they explain this, so that I can feel like a dunce but at least make progress on this. Much appreciated!

If you have a Pro or Manager level store you upload the templates through the merchant interface Merchandising > Custom Templates . This will place the templates in your store's data directory in a subdirectory called templates and individual subdirectories of that directory for each of the specific types.

If you have a starter level store there is no interface to upload the templates. The templates would need to be loaded to the same location where the ShopSite provided templates are located which is in the shopping cart cgi directory (normally sc) and a templates subdirectory of that. Note that if you name your templates the same as a ShopSite provided template in this location it will be overwritten (or moved to a backup folder) the next time your store is upgraded.

Thanks for the quick reply.

* uploaded my custom page and product template through Merchandising > Custom Templates
* went to Pages > Edit Page Layout and changed the page template to the name of my custom template
* clicked on the Publish tab

If these steps were in the cookbook or otherwise obvious, then my bad. If not, they should be. Thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction.

So, I can now see my design and the fact that the "loop products" tag isn't working, but I'll give that a go on my own for a bit.

Thanks.
