Extra Fields Naming

If I configure the Extra Page and Product field names to more meaningful ones, can I reference them by either the default name "Product Field 1" or the configured "MyFieldName"?
In other words, do I need to change all the templates/includes etc. ?

The templates require the use of the original name i.e. [-- product.field1 --] and will not recognize the name you have given the field. So you don't need to make any changes to the template include if you change the field name.
