Custom Templates - FTP - Directories

Postby tonihazlewood » Tue Dec 18, 2007 7:21 am

Am just starting out and want to modify an existing page template. Have copied the existing awesome in blue to a new one with Shopsite under a different name. I now want to download it locally, amend, upload and test. I am familiar with ftp. I have searched for the "data" directory and the "sc" directory and any files ending with .sst. Am I on the wrong track? The only directories I have are cgi-bin, cgi-files, docs, logs, private & sounds. I cannot find the new template or any others here. I am really struggling with this and would appreciate some guidance.

In most cases the data directory and cgi directories (ss and sc) are not available to ftp users. Generally the ftp user is a different user on the server than what the webserver runs as. So uploading files by ftp would make them unusable to the webserver user which ShopSite runs as. YOu would need to have an ftp user that has the same permissions as the webserver user or have the ability to set the permissions and ownership from the ftp user to those of the webserver user for the files to be available to the webserver.

Generally unless you are uploading lots of files it is easier to just open a new template in ShopSite and paste your edited version into it, then it will maintain the correct ownership and permissions so that it can be used.
