Newbie: Shopsite Store, Cart URL, SSL , Add/View Cart button

Postby sekar » Tue Nov 27, 2007 7:51 am

Dear All

* I have setup a store and enabled 'SSL' for the shopping cart URL (.com/Shopsite-Install/SC). But when users click on 'Check out' in the shopping cart, they are not presented with a secured Page?? there is no lock or https in the 'billing page'. Any idea why?? Pls note, SSL is working fine on the site.

* Also I noticed a strange thing.

- I launch our website as https:/ and click on 'Add' button, the 'cart' page is invoked as 'https' in the 'add button', but the URL does not show 'https' and 'no lock' displayed. why is that so? Also,

- when i click on 'view cart' button, the 'cart' page is invoked as 'https' and the URL shows 'https' (unlike add button), and 'ssl lock ' is displayed. why is that so? Also,

- if I launch my site as http only, and use 'add' cart button on any page, click on 'empty cart', it clears the cart, but when I launch my site as 'https', click 'add' , and click 'empty cart' it shows '.com/index.html' page which does not even exist...where is this index.htm coming from? (not from my store url which is pointing to .com)?? why this issue??

Appreciate your help.

Thanks

Sekar,

ShopSite is setup to have the all the store pages as well as the shopping cart/basket page be a non secure pages, and have only the checkout, confirmation and thank you pages as secure pages. The only pages that need to be secure are the checkout, confirmation and thank you because those are the only pages where the customer has their personal information. If there is no reason to have the rest of your website secure, I would suggest changing it so that it is not secure. Sercure pages take longer to load than non secure pages.

As for the index page, if you have gone through the ShopSite wizard and published the store at the end of the wizard, then ShopSite has automatically created the index.html page for your website. You can login through FTP and delete this page if you would like.

By default the continue shopping and empty cart buttons return customers to the last page that they were on. If the customer does not have cookies enabled then ShopSite cannot track where the customer is coming from, so ShopSite will return the customer to the ShopSite home page (index.html). If you would like to specify a specific URL where customers will be sent when they click continue shopping or empty cart, then you can set that URL by going to Commerce Setup > Order System > Shopping Cart.

If you are not using ShopSite to create any of your store pages (if you are just using the OrderAnywhere buttons) then I believe you can change the My Store URL to your own home page. That way you can still return customers to the last page they were on when they click on continue shopping or empty cart, and if they do not have cookies enabled on their browser they will be returned to the URL you specified, rather than the default ShopSite URL. You can change the My Store URL by going to Preferences > Hosting Service.
