One of my customers has disappeared from the regsitered customer database. How can I prevent this from happening? when she tried to login in she got the following message:

Perhaps the shopper used a different email address when registering (or signing in). Typo's occur either at registration time or when signing in and this could make it appear that they weren't registered. Check the backoffice of the store to see if you can see an email address that is similar to what they were trying to sign in with.

If you restored the shopsite_db file from a backup before the shopper had registered it would appear that they had been deleted.

They may have been accidentally deleted by someone in the backoffice.

Customer disappeared from registered customer database reply

None of the options you suggested apply and since unfortunately our DB of customers on this site is still very small, so I can tell she has just disappeared. She ordered twice in a row, as I had a coupon for her to use. I cancelled her first order and she reordered so she was still there then and now when she tried a week later, she is no longer there. Since hers is the only order I cancelled, I suspect it has something to do with that, I cross checked against my records and everyone else is there.
