Custom Checkout Fields

I have a visitor script that puts a cookie on each visitors pc with an assigned number to identify the pc, how the visitor found us, and how many times they have visited out site. And it maintains a log of visitors with this information, plus the url visited and the linking url. This gives me the ability to see how a visitor came to us originally, since many do not purchase on the first visit.

I want to add this number to a Custom Checkout Fields, and put it into the View Orders and order reports as a hidden field.

Is this possible, and how difficult would it be to add?
